$100K+saved in 6 years

This is your $4,000 a month budget to save six figures in the next 6 years.

Whether you are a remote worker or a veteran and you want to maximize your savings, this is how living abroad can become a savings plan for you.

Everything in this budget is based on the buying power of the US dollar as of October 2026 and does not include possible inflation. This is your starting point.

The visa strategy

Your path to six figures

Your visa strategy is designed in two parts. Phase 1 gets you settled in Thailand on a long stay visa so you can maximize how much you save, and Phase 2 is the long-term strategy that leads you to over $100,000 in savings.

If you do not currently have $15,000 in your account, this is where you start.

You start on a tourist visa, which you apply for before you leave. This is different from the visa exemption you get on arrival. The tourist visa gives you a longer stay, which you need to set up your next visa, the one that keeps you in Thailand for a full year.

When you land, you switch to the education visa and register for Thai language courses for your first year.

Your 5-year visa

Before you leave Thailand

Choose between taking Muay Thai classes or becoming a Thai chef through a Thai cooking course. Register and pay for the course up front, before you leave, so it is set up and ready to go when you apply.

Applying from the States

You now have over $15,000 that has been sitting in your account for the past 3 months, so your plan is to apply for the DTV, the Destination Thailand Visa, from the States.

  1. As soon as you land, get your FBI background check through an FBI channeler so it is expedited.
  2. Apply for the Destination Thailand Visa.
  3. Approval takes 4 to 6 weeks, so use that time with your family.
  4. Fly back to Thailand and move into your new condo.
